Hobbies are masturbatory, and the whole sick notion of "the hobby" brings to mind D.H. Laurence's story about the boy furiously riding the "hobbyhorse" of his own misdirected (or undirected) Geist. An archetypal hobby would be listening to records in the garage and trying to cultivate in one's soul the trashy, tawdry, and threadbare emotions immortalized in bubblegum pop songs.
